Novakid is an online English learning platform that offers lessons only to children between the ages of 4 to 12. There are only individual lessons on NovaKid and two plan options standard and premium. On the standard plan, the tutors are professional teachers but not native speakers. On the premium plan, the tutors are both professional teachers and native speakers. I think that is why the prices are high. I will share the prices in detail throughout this article but before we start I want to say I don’t think it is worth that much.
On NovaKid’s standard plan, your child takes lessons from a certified teacher who is a fluent English speaker but not a native. That is why it is relatively cheaper than the premium plan. For its standard plan, NovaKid provides 4 options to its users: 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month plans. All these options contain 2 lessons per week but the prices and the payment frequency change. On a 3-month plan, the payment is one time only, on 6-month and 12-month plans you don’t have to pay the price together since they have installment payment options available. The prices are as listed; for a 1-month plan 101.52$ per month, for a 3-month plan 87.2$ per month, for a 6-month plan 79.2$ per month, and 12-month plan 76.8$ per month. As you can see, prices get more budget-friendly as time increases. Yes, getting a 12-month plan seems more sensible but it is a long time commitment and if you are not satisfied with the education, you may regret it. You can try the trial lessons, of course, but still, to understand a platform that suits you, you should try it at least for a month. But when you buy a monthly package and after that get a yearly plan, it is not budget-friendly at all.
On the premium plan, NovaKid lets your child take lessons from a certified teacher who is also a native English Speaker. That is why the prices are higher compared to the standard plan. For its premium plan, NovaKid again provides 4 options to its users. These are again 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month plans. Similar to the standard plan, all of these options include two lessons per week, however, the costs and the frequency of payments vary. On a 3-month plan, you'll have just one payment required; however, 6-month and 12-month plans allow you the option of installment payments, so you are not required to pay the total amount at once. The costs of the plans are; for 1-month plan 169.6$ per month, for 3-month plan 158.4$ per month, for 6-month plan 151.2$ per month, and 12-month plan 146.4$. Even though some options seem like they are budget-friendly, still it is too expensive for an online language learning platform.
NovaKid’s refund policy seems okay at first but when you read user reviews, you understand that is not the case. To paint a picture in your mind, I will share a user’s experience with you.
“I wanted my daughter to learn English at a young age, so I subscribed to NovaKid thinking it would be helpful. However, I regretted my decision after a while. I made the mistake of subscribing to their yearly plan right after the free trial lesson. My daughter really enjoyed the trial lesson and I thought it would be a great platform for her to learn English. However, my daughter could not take some of the lessons we paid for because of the tutor’s internet connection. Naturally, I wanted to talk to customer service and demand a refund. However, although they were very supportive until the sale, I couldn’t talk to someone and explain myself properly! I’ve waited a long time to get a refund and they only paid my money back after complaining about it on an online public platform! To other parents thinking of joining NovaKid, I can only say don’t. The platform is not supportive after the sale and the prices are not cheap at all!”
To answer briefly, I don’t think NovaKid is very reliable. I say so because on the standard plan, the teachers are professionals but there are many comments on the internet saying their speaking skills are not quite good or it is hard for the children to understand the teacher. Also, many users commented saying the refund process is difficult and tiring and the customer support department is difficult to reach after the sale is closed. Due to these reasons, I feel like the platform does not care about its users enough and is not reliable. When I keep in mind that the prices are not cheap. I don’t recommend anyone using NovaKid.
