1. Overview: EF English Live Prices
EF English Live is a globally known online English learning platform. It claims to provide English lessons for all levels. These lessons include 45-minute group lessons and private lessons you should book 24 hours in advance. It also provides lessons on exams such as TOEFL and TOEIC. Unlike its competitors, EF English Live does not separate the group classes and private lessons. On most platforms, if both options are provided, you can choose which one you want to get. However, on EF English Live no matter which package you choose, you get 30 group lessons per month.
I believe you can choose not to join the classes but the platform sets the prices considering the group lessons. I think this is a bit unfair to the users because a lot of users want to get private lessons. However, on EF English Live you can only choose between 2,4 or 8 private lessons per month. The prices for these lessons are; 89$ for a month per 2 private lessons a month, 109$ for 4 private lessons per month, and 139$ for a month per 8 lessons a month.
2. Why Can’t You See The EF English Live Prices?
When you go on the EF English Live website, you cannot see the prices. They have a section for prices, but they don’t show them to you. To get information on prices you should subscribe to the platform and wait for them so send an email to schedule a call. To give you detailed information and what I think about EF English Live’s pricing policy, I will share my experience with you.
I search for different platforms’ prices to compare them and choose the best one. Therefore, I wanted to see EF English Live costs too. So, I visited the website and got excited when I first saw the ‘Prices’ section because I thought I could see the prices without even subscribing which is something very few online English platforms offer. However, when I clicked, I was disappointed because I figured out that I had to sign up. Thinking I would see the prices after signing up, I signed up.
However, I couldn’t see the prices because then I saw they demonstrated how the timeline works just for me to learn the prices! I think it is crazy to do so much just to see the prices. Anyway, I saw they would send me an email and we would schedule a call. I didn’t receive the e-mail for an hour and thought they wouldn’t e-mail me. But they did, and I scheduled a call but the closest time for me to schedule a call was 2 hours away and I was a bit upset since I had to wait THREE HOURS just to see the prices. Nevertheless, I waited for the call. Then, at the time we scheduled, they called me and I talked with a language specialist.
She was really sweet and didn’t give me unnecessary information. I learned from her that all packages on EF English Live contain 30 group lessons per month. I think this is something they do to trick the user into thinking they are getting a lot of lessons. However, the number of private lessons is very low. I learned their plans consist of packages in which you can get 2,4, or 8 private lessons per month. This was disappointing for me because I think any student will be more comfortable and improve more in one-to-one classes rather than group lessons.
Therefore, I didn’t like their approach to this. And the prices supported my disappointment because they were too expensive for very few private lessons and too many group lessons. Anyway, through the call with the language specialist, I‘ve learned the prices for 12-month packages are 89$ for a month per 2 private lessons a month, 109$ for 4 private lessons per month, and 139$ for a month per 8 lessons a month.
I thought they were very expensive for so few lessons but the person I’ve talked with told me I would get an extra private lesson each month if I subscribed to the plan today or tomorrow. I thought maybe this was an active campaign but I didn’t see anything on their website or Instagram, so I thought this was something they say to anyone to rush their subscription. Later on, I told them I would consider the prices and maybe we could talk again later and the language specialist told me she can send me an e-mail about the prices which made me really happy because it is hard to remember all this information.
However, in the e-mail, I saw that they also had a 6-month subscription too which I wasn’t informed about during the call. On the 6-month subscription, EF English Live offers again 30 group lessons per month and 4 private lessons. The price for this package is 129 USD per month.
I also saw in the e-mail that I could get discounts for only 2-private-lessons and 4-private-lessons packages if I paid in advance. In this situation, the overall price for 2 private lessons a month is 948 USD, and for 4 private lessons a month is 1188 USD. In conclusion, I think no matter which package you choose, it is very expensive. So, I don’t think of joining EF English Live because of the prices and the way they structure packages. This is my experience with EF English Live and I can’t give you information about the platform because I didn’t try it out. However, if you want to learn about people’s experience with the platform, check out our blog on EF English Live user reviews.
3. Ef English Live Packages
EF English Live only offers 6-month and 12-month packages. On the 6-Month package, there is just one option 4 private lessons a month and 30 group lessons which are standard for any package. The price for this package is 129$ per month.
On the 12-month package, EF English Live offers 3 options and these options differ from each other according to the number of private lessons. The 2-private lessons per month package costs 89$ per month and contains the standard 30 group lessons. The 4-private-lessons package, on the other hand, contains 4 private lessons a month and costs 109$ a month. Lastly, the 8-private-lessons a month-private-lesson package contains 8 private lessons a month and costs 139$ per month.
Also, you can get discounts for only 2 private lessons and 4 private lessons packages if you pay in advance. In this situation, the overall price for 2 private lessons a month is 948 USD, and for 4 private lessons a month is 1188 USD. This way, EF English Live provides %11,23 and %9,7 discounts on these packages but still, I don’t think EF English Live is a logical choice.
To me, EF English restricting the number of private lessons is a big disadvantage. They provide 30 group lessons per month which is way too much than you would need and offer you only 2,4 or 8 private lessons. I think it is a really bad deal for the user.
12-Month Package Overall Prices:
30 Group Sessions and 2 Private Lessons/ Month | 1,068 USD |
30 Group Sessions and 4 Private Lessons/ Month | 1,308 USD |
30 Group Sessions and 8 Private Lessons/ Month | 1,668 USD |
4. EF English Live Cancellation Problems
EF English Live prices are very high and inconvenient. However, still, they are very problematic when it comes to cancellations. From the user reviews I’ve read on Trustpilot, I understand that EF English Live victimizes its students on cancellation. The platform claims it is easy to cancel but the users say otherwise. Some say you cannot reach anyone to cancel your subscription, some say they find a respondent to your wish but they don’t refund even if they say they will in a month or so.
“1) You cannot reach anyone to cancel the service2) They call from private numbers to scare new english speakers saying they have to pay3) They website offers a 2 week free trial and they charge you on the first day4) No numbers to call, no people to talk to about canceling, Horrible site and experience” -Jeffrey George, Trustpilot
“The helper tools are not helpful, for example the pronunciation exercises are obscene, they evaluate totally wrong pronunciations as valid. It is not possible to cancel the subscription when you want even if the help section says otherwise.” -customer, Trustpilot
Charging Without Permission
Not only does EF English Live victimize its students on cancellation, but they also charge them without their permission too. Users on Trustpilot say they charge your card without your approval and charge you even after you stated that you want to cancel your subscription.
“They are lying thieves. They even have a system in place that charges your bank account without your permission. I burnt my finger with them twice. The quality of teaching and a content is not as good as one would imagine. They are not worth your money and the hassle they bring.” -Alex, Trustpilot
5. Conclusion: Is English Live Worth It?
I don’t think EF English Live is worth the money. Firstly, this is because the prices are too expensive even if you get discounts. Another reason is the platform trying to seem like they are allowing you to take a lot of quality lessons with the number of group lessons. However, it provides very few private lessons and doesn’t allow you to add extra lessons. Also, reviews are saying EF English Live creates problems during cancellation and charges its students’ cards without their permission. Therefore, I believe you shouldn’t use EF English Live since it is not worth the money you will pay.
My suggestion to you is to look into other platforms. To do so, you can visit our website. You can also check out the campaigns to get a good deal with the platform of your choice.
